Bastard nettles

Bastard nettles

Bastard nettles and ripping thorn

 Teflon grass of dewy morn

Tangled roots that catch and trip

Smashed in face and broken hip

Biting gnats leave hives and blisters

A swollen face like an ugly sister’s

All this pain to fish at night

A fisherman’s brain just isn’t right

The wiring’s crossed the circuits fuse

To chance a fish we dare not lose

We risk our lives we chance a limb

To raise our odds from zilch to slim
